I’m Lisa, and for the last 6 years, I’ve been working part time here at City Road Vets processing client insurance claims and queries.

I started training as a vet nurse many years ago, in a mixed animal practice in South Wales. I was very much thrown in at the deep end, and learnt and saw more than I ever thought possible in a very short time! However I decided mixed practice wasn’t for me, so I packed up and moved to London, where I started working at The Blue Cross Animal hospital in Victoria. I stayed here for 10 years, during which time I qualified as a VN and developed a real interest in the intensive care side of nursing, caring for the sickest of animals and working with a great team towards the best outcome we could hope for. It was also whilst here that I met Simon, to whom I’ve now been married to for almost 20 years!

I also worked at the RSPCA in London and a 24 hour emergency clinic in Belgravia – so really did experience pet ownership from both ends of the spectrum.

A LITTLE MORE ABOUT LISA

Simon and I moved, with our 1 year old daughter, to Truro in 2007. Shortly after we had a son, and for a few years I enjoyed staying at home with the kids. I worked a couple of years at both a private practice in Redruth and an animal charity hospital in Scorrier, before the hours became incompatible with being mum’s taxi for the kids; and that is how I eventually settled in with a part time role here at CRVC, when a position became available. Though I miss nursing terribly, I do still at least get to be a part of an amazing practice and be involved, even from my office, in all the highs and lows of working with animals.

In my spare time, I love exercising – I’m a member of a local gym, and love to go for long walks and fit in the odd run every now and again – making the most of the beautiful area we moved to. I love films, music and sport – luckily as most of any other spare time is spent watching our 2 children participate in many different after school and weekend sporting activities. We have 2 cats at home (both rescued form CRVC) and who knows … maybe a dog one day?
